- Reversi by Robert j. Woodhead
-
- Reversi is a board game played on an 8 by 8 grid using stones black on one
- side and white on the other. It starts with 4 stones in the central 4
- squares of the board, 2 white side up and 2 black. White and Black players
- alternate moves. A player may place a stone in a square if it is next to a
- stone of the other color, and traps that stone between the new stone and
- another stone of the same color. Trapped stones are captured and flipped
- to the player's color. It is possible to capture enemy stones in up to 8
- directions in a single move! If a player has no legal move, she must pass.
- The game is over when all 64 squares have been played, or a player has been
- wiped out. The player with the most stones wins.
-
- When Reversi is run, a demo game illustrates the play. Press and hold the
- mouse to start a game. To make a move, click in the chosen square. If the
- move isn't legal, the Mac will make a obnoxious noise.
-
- Menu Hints:
-
- File:
- Save Game saves a game in progress, Load Game loads a saved game.
-
- Edit:
- Take Back Last Turn lets you to retract your last move and Mac's reply. Y
- ou can only retract the last turn. You must use Pass Move only if you
- have no legal move. The fact that Reversi does not automatically pass you
- if you have no move lets you to redo your previous move if Mac slaughters
- you. Use Change Game Parameters to change (1) the depth and width of Mac's
- search (how many turns it looks ahead, how many positions it considers in
- each); (2) the players' colors (even in the middle of the game); and (3)
- turn off the move and search animation.

- The Donald Beaulieu Vision Fund
- Donald Beaulieu is a visually impaired Apple user who lives in Boston.
- There are 2 things Donald can use to really improve his life. One is an
- Apple computer, which he already has. The other is a special reading
- machine that can scan books and read them to him. If you like this
- program, I would appreciate it if you would send a small donation ($5 to $10 would be appropriate) to:
-
- The Donald Beaulieu Vision Fund
- c/o Margo C. Tommervik
- ST-Mac Magazine
- 7250 Laurel Canyon Boulevard,
- North Hollywood, California 91605
-
- All donations will be used to buy the machine, and any extra funds received
- will be donated to the American Society for the Blind, for use in computer
- education of the visually handicapped.
- Please feel free to make copies of Mac Reversi and distribute them to all
- your fellow Mac users.

- PS: (this is the fine print) In case you are wondering, the reason we are
- doing this is simple. First of all, Donald is a Wizardry player, and
- anyone who likes our game enough to play it when he has to use a magnifying
- glass is a good guy in our book. Secondly, this program was written "just
- for the heck of it" over a few days, and we would not think of trying to
- profit off so little effort. So we were going to just give it away. Then,
- just as I was finishing the program, Lynn, A.K.A. Ms. Wiz, the lady in our
- office who fixes all the abused Wizardry disks that get sent to us, comes
- and tells me about this conversation she has had with Donald's mother. We
- had known about Donald from the calls he has made asking for hints, but
- this was the first we had heard of his vision impairment. After hearing
- this, I looked at Lynn, looked at Mac Reversi, and now, if you have any
- conscience at all, this program isn't going to be free any more. So if you
- feel guilty about not sending in a donation, call Lynn and tell her how
- much psychic pain she has caused.
